Penumbra delivers truth in a slant that angles under my mind. Plants some relentless seed, germinating and reconfiguring the dirt there, emerging through the cerebral concrete, it both troubles and relieves my thoughts, or feelings, I can’t tell which.
Thanks for this thoughtful (and dare I say, rather poetic) feedback! My torts prof at Cornell introduced me to the concept of the penumbra, and it’s been rattling around in my frontal lobe ever since. 🙂
Gave me goosebumps, the GOOD kind! Fabulous poem! Think you have hit well on a "pure" understanding of this world of ours. Blessings to you, Samuel. ~Wendy💜
Thrilled by this feedback, thanks so much! There’s something so poetic about lilacs, and they happen to be one of the few species I actually get to hang out around, so…it feels less fraudulent when I write about ‘em 😆
a great poem, Samuel. i began reading it to myself when on the phone with my brother, and when he asked what i was doing, i told him i was reading a poem. he asked me to read it aloud, and when i did, your words came alive.
Wow! Thank you for sharing that moment with me. I find that words always take on a different shape when read aloud — truly honored that you’d share it with your brother. 🙂
Absolutely brilliant! (Once again)

I could read your poetry every day and be content. This is beautiful!
That’s so kind of you to say! Thanks for reading 🤠

Thank you so much, Wendy!! That’s an honor to hear 😊
‘Nature is neither hot- nor cold- blooded’ what a piercing line!
It’s almost like this is a penumbra of the wasteland-I guess it’s the lilacs, love the form, the words, the whole texture of it ;)

After this, I am not afraid of the light.
Nor should we be 🙂
